More residents in Burnham area put forward for OIympic torch role

-

More residents from across the Burnham-On-Sea area have been nominated to become Olympic Torch Bearers.

New nominees in Burnham and Highbridge include Jessie Rogers, Julia Gibson, Rhiannon Parsons and Corey Nicolls.

Jane Sinnott, leader of Brent Knoll Guides, pictured, has also been put forward for her 30 years of work with the group.

Burnham-On-Sea.com was first to report here that Burnham’s 90 year-old triathlon runner Arthur Gilbert, charity runner Jason Vickers and Burnham Swim and Sports Academy’s manager Sara Cox-Conklin are also among the 28,000 people across the UK to have been nominated.

The nominees will be assessed at a regional judging session soon and then, if successful, given a conditional offer this December, with torchbearer places being confirmed in February 2012.

Details of the route of the Olympic flame are still being finalised, but it will visit Taunton on 21st May 2012 and Bristol on 22nd May.

There are high hopes that the torch will also travel through Highbridge, along the A38 on its way to Bristol, when the local torch bearers may take part.
