Highbridge accident prompts calls for pavement repairs

-

A town councillor in Highbridge has this week backed residents calls for damaged pavements to be urgently repaired following an accident on Saturday (March 5th).

Cllr Joe Leach has called on Somerset County Council to fix broken kerb stones along Church Street after a pensioner was injured.

An ambulance was called to Church Street on Saturday morning, as pictured, after a lady suffered head injuries when her mobility scooter toppled over at the junction with King Street.

Cllr Leach, pictured with concerned local resident Alan Miller, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The lady’s scooter overturned when one of its wheels hit a cracked kerb stone.”

“This is one of several kerbs and pavements along Church Street which urgently need work to bring them up to standard.”

He is calling on Somerset County Council’s Highways Department to step in and make the repairs.

He added: “This is a very busy road in a residential area and it’s appalling that pavements are such a poor state of disrepair.”
