Lib Dems choose new leader on Burnham-On-Sea Town Council

-

Burnham and Highbridge Liberal Democrats have chosen a new Town Council leader in the wake of last week’s elections.

Cllr Phil Harvey, pictured, who is a newly-elected Lib Dem councillor in the Burnham East ward, has been unanimously backed by the party to take on the role.

It comes after former leader Joe Leach lost his Burnham Marine town council seat in last week’s local elections, as reported here by Burnham-On-Sea.com.

Phil will therefore lead the Lib Dems on Burnham and Highbridge Town Council from its first meeting next Monday (May 16th).

Phil grew up in Burnham and his teaching work took him around the country, finishing as deputy headteacher of a girl’s high school in Essex.

After retirement he returned to Somerset and now lives in Burnham. From 1979 until 2005, he was a councillor in Chelmsford and also served five years as its leader of council. Phil told Burnham-On-Sea.com he is looking forward to serving Burnham.
