Popular seafront restaurant in Burnham-On-Sea to close as owners retire

-

A popular seafront restaurant in Burnham-On-Sea is set to shut down next month when its owners retire after 28 years of serving up teas and meals.

The Porthole opened on the North Esplanade in 1984 and has been visited by thousands of seafront visitors since.

Its owners Bob Poole, 68, and Sylv Poole, 63, will be shutting the doors for the final time on October 2nd when they hang up their aprons.

Sylv told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We’ve really enjoyed running this very busy restaurant for the past 28 years, but now it’s time for a rest.”

“I’m sure that value for money, consistency, doing the cooking ourselves, and a lot of very hard work is behind our success.”

She added: “We’ll certainly miss seeing our many regular customers and thank them for all their support over the years.”

The couple also own the Artful Doger cafe in Burnham’s Oxford Street, which will continue to operate as usual.
