10th annual potato festival held at Brent Knoll garden centre

Visitors to Sanders Garden World in Brent Knoll over the weekend (January 29th and 30th) were able to learn all about spuds and the benefits of growing them during the centre’s annual Potato Weekend.

Peter Burks, General Manager of Sanders Garden World, said: “This is the 10th year we have run our Potato Weekend and each year it keeps getting bigger and better.”

“We had at least 50 varieties on show and our team of horticultural experts were on hand during the event to give visitors lots of complimentary advice.”

During the weekend, there was free information on selecting, planting, caring and harvesting potatoes.

Peter added: “It’s very rewarding growing your own potatoes and once you have tasted your own home-grown, freshly harvested spuds you will understand how amazing it is. Fresh potatoes are also packed with vitamin C and are very good for you.”

“Don’t be put off if you don’t have a veg patch or allotment. Potatoes can easily be grown in containers in a small garden, backyard or on a patio. It is possible to grow a decent crop of spuds in containers with minimal care required. Plant the potatoes in early spring and a few months later you’ll be eating tasty spuds.”
