Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge Town Council is one of only around a dozen parish and town councils across Somerset to have achieved official quality status.

The National Association of Local Councils (NALC) has announced that the council’s application for re-accreditation has been granted, much to the delight of Burnham Mayor Michael Clarke, Deputy Mayor Ken Smout and Eileen Shaw (pictured).

Cllr Clarke told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “I am delighted that the Town Council has been re-accredited.”

“To achieve the status, the council has had to demonstrate its competency in terms of electoral mandate, qualifications of the clerk, and the way in which it conducts its business and communications with the community.”

“There are only around a dozen parish and town councils in Somerset who have achieved this recognition so we are proud to be among them.”

The Quality Parish and Town Council scheme was launched nationally in June 2003.
