A man was struck dead by a passing railway train on the outskirts of Burnham-On-Sea this morning (Sunday, July 24th).

Train services through the Burnham-On-Sea area were disrupted after police sealed off an area of the line near the Queen's Drive bridge, as pictured here.

The train was travelling southbound towards Bridgwater when the incident occurred at 9.06am.

British Transport Police spokeswoman Sonia Bains told "British Transport Police, Avon and Somerset Police and the ambulance service responded to a report of a male having been struck by a train at a foot crossing."

"Upon arrival at the scene the officers found the body of a male. This matter is being investigated but is not being treated as suspicious. The male's identity is not being released at this stage."

She added that anyone with information should call British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
