Burnham-On-Sea’s Mayor and Mayoress were among 500 dignitaries, representatives of local groups and residents who gathered at Burnham-On-Sea’s war memorial on Sunday morning (November 13th) to mark Remembrance Day.

The Burnham and District branch of The Royal British Legion organised the Remembrance parade and service, which included the laying of 20 wreaths at the War Memorial in Love Lane.

Two minutes’ silence was held at exactly 11am followed by the playing of the Last Post by trumpeter Phil Farr-Cox.

A short service was led by Reverend Eric Petrie which ended with a recording of the National Anthem being played and ‘In Flanders Fields’, a poem by a Canadian military doctor and Commander, Major John McCrae in May 1915.
