Road safety workshop set to be held for older drivers in Burnham

-

A workshop is set to be held in Burnham-On-Sea during November offering expert advice to older drivers, helping them to remain on the road for many more years.

The Burnham workshop will be held on 24th November and is one of ten being held across Somerset in coming weeks.

The session will cover issues such as driving licensing, changes to the Highway Code, the effects of medication, night driving, mobility aids and vehicle improvements.

Those attending will be able to book a free driving refresher course with an accredited instructor, and have a free non-medical eyesight test.

Somerset County Councilor David Hall, Cabinet Member responsible for Road Safety, said: “The Route Sixty Plus programme has been developed following a hugely successful trial period earlier this year.”

“It is an innovative programme that addresses driving challenges arising not only from how vehicles have changed over the years but from how people’s own driving habits may also have changed.”

“Devised by the authority’s Road Safety Team, working with local police, fire, health, motoring and road organisations, the workshops will offer lots of practical tips and advice and are a great way of keeping driving skills up to date.”

Those attending will receive a free information pack that includes a copy of the latest Highway Code and a hi-visibility jacket. There will also be a chance to find out more about fire safety and crime prevention. To find out more, please call Somerset Road Safety on 01823 423 430.
