Burnham and Highbridge Sea Cadets collection raises over £400

-

Generous shoppers in Burnham-On-Sea dug deep into their pockets to donate over £400 to the town’s Sea Cadets at the weekend.

Members of Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge Sea Cadets’ TS Dulverton Unit collected along Burnham High Street and seafront.

The group’s traditional ‘Flag Week’, where the cadets used to spend a week of evenings knocking on doors around the town asking for donations, was not held this year for various reasons and the idea of the street collections came up instead.

“The weather was very kind and the day was a great success. The Cadets, Staff and Unit Management Committee would like to say a huge thank you to all those people who kindly contributed on Saturday. They managed to raise £440 of much-needed funds which will go a long way towards the continued success of the unit,” the cadet’s Matt Harkness told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

The Sea Cadets offer a wide variety of activities, both land and water-based, with opportunities to go to sea on powered boats as well as yachts. The Burnham and Highbridge unit meet on Monday and Thursday evenings, between 7pm and 9pm at their purpose-built facilities in Cassis Close (next to Burnham United Football Club), and always welcome new Cadets.
