A group of hardy Burnham-On-Sea fundraisers dashed into the icy waters of Bridgwater Bay today (New Year’s Day) to take part in a bracing sea dip.

Six swimmers took part in the sponsored sea dip from Burnham beach to raise funds for rescue hovercraft charity BARB and the Coastguard Association.

Some of the participants splashed at the edge of the sea, while others waded into the water before taking an icy swim.

A crowd of almost 100 onlookers watched the spectacle from the beach, while several Coastguards and a first aid team ensured everyone’s safety.

“This was a great opportunity to work off the excesses of Christmas while raising money for a good cause,” a BARB spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com. “Many thanks go to all those brave people who took part.”
