A major beach search was conducted in the Burnham-On-Sea area on Saturday morning (July 2nd) amid concern for the welfare of a missing person.

Search teams from Burnham-On-Sea Coastguards and BARB carried out a three hour search of the beach and dunes between Burnham and Brean after police reported a 44-year-old man was missing.

An RAF helicopter from Chivenor in Devon also joined the search team, which totalled 16 people, to scour an eight mile stretch of the beach between Burnham jetty and Brean Down Fort, as pictured here.

“No trace of the man was initially found despite a very thorough search of the beach and dunes, but fortunately he was found safe and well inland by a Burnham Coastguard later in the day,” Burnham Coastguard officer Steve Bird told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

There was concern for the welfare of the man, who was believed to be in a distressed state.
