Gill is chosen as the new Chairman of Sedgemoor District Council

-

Councillors at Sedgemoor District Council elected a new Chairwoman on Wednesday afternoon (May 18th).

Cllr Gill Slocombe, a Bridgwater councillor, took over the role from West Huntspill’s Jane Moreton.

Gill was first elected to Sedgemoor District Council in 1999 as one of the three members of the Quantock Ward.

After two years, she was elected Vice Chairman of Licensing, becoming Chairman a year later.

Despite working full time in library administration in Bridgwater, over the past few years Gill has been involved in many charity events and is well-known for her love and dedication to carnival.

Gill has recently retired from the library service and became a grandmother just two weeks ago. Despite her new family role, her family are very supportive of her taking on the challenge of becoming Chairman for Sedgemoor.

Council Leader Cllr Duncan McGinty said: “Gill is a totally committed member of this council and I know she will bring her own unique blend of skills to the role.”

Cllr Jane Moreton was praised for her “considerable work” as the council’s outgoing Chair.
