Jedward’s grandma leads Burnham-On-Sea’s annual Smile Walk!

-

A charity walker dressed as the grandmother of popstars Jedward was among the colourful participants taking part in Burnham-On-Sea’s annual Smile Walk on Sunday (August 28th)!

A small crowd turned out to watch the start of the fundraising fancy dress walk along the town’s seafront, which was held to raise funds for an Indian school.

Over 20 people took part in the walk along the town’s jetty, past the Pavilion, to the bandstand before returning to the South Esplanade.

Organiser Jayne Feltham told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “A big thank you goes to everyone who took part or supported us today – it was a great event.”

She added that the seafront collection had raised £133 while sponsorship fees are expected to raise in the region of another £200.

Proceeds will go to the Peter Gilliard Memorial School in India, which is named after Highbridge resident Peter Gilliard, who died in 2002.

The school educates over 360 children and costs £2,000 a month to keep running and is funded partially by events in the Burnham and Highbridge area.

Among those taking part in Sunday’s walk were a wide range of people of all ages, including 90-year-old Robert Vaughn and 89 year-old Dorris Arnold in a mobility scooter.
