A new solar energy farm is to be built on farmland next to Brean Down, it has been announced this week.

Sedgemoor District Council has approved a planning application for a solar photovoltaic array featuring 178 solar panel modules on land at Brean Down Farm.

The solar farm will cover an area of up to 950 square metres and will generate an estaimated 48,800 kWh per year. The panels will be installed on frames and will have a maximum height of 2.6m.

The Lower Axe Drainage Board objected against the plans due to concern baout potential flooding at the site, which is close to the River Axe estuary.

The solar array will have an operational life of 25 years, after which the above-ground elements will be removed and the site restored.
