Burnham-On-Sea charity supporters raise £1,100 for eating disorders charity

-

Fundraisers in Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge have this week handed over more than £1,000 to a local charity helping people with eating disorders following a series of events.

Jackie Tanner organised a sponsored walk on Burnham beach and a quiz night at Burnham’s Pier Tavern, which collectively raised £1,105 for SWEDA (South West Eating Disorder Association).

Jackie said: “Thanks go to everyone who has supported these events. The total raised from the walk and quiz was £1,105 so a massive thanks goes to all who supported this great cause.”

The Somerset and Wessex Eating Disorders Association (SWEDA) provides help to people in the area affected by eating disorders. The disorders, such as anorexia nervosa and bulimia, are illnesses affecting some 1.6 million people in the UK. If left without help or professional support the condition may have a far reaching impact upon every aspect of a person’s life, from health and relationships to schoolwork and future employment.
