The visit was held as part of the club’s ongoing work to encourage more young players into tennis.

East Brent School Year Group 3’s enjoyed a fun morning of tennis with coaches Vinny Duddy and Craig Phillips.

“We took the kids through a series of warm-up and co-ordination exercises, then went through forehand and backhand shots with the ultimate aim of ensuring the kids could finish off the session with the ability to play two fun games called Ghost in the Graveyard and Jail Break,” Avenue Tennis Club Head Coach Vinny Duddy told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

The club has offered to do the same for other local schools in Burnham but a stumbling block has been the lack of school funds to provide transport to the club.

Vinny said: “If there are any locals who would like to support their childrens class then please either contact myself at the club or go directly to school. There have been discussions with Burnham Infants about walking to the club.”

The coaches also attended East Brent School last Thursday (5th May) where they spent the day going through racket skills and games to show the children that they don’t actually need a tennis court to have fun with a racket and ball.

The club’s coaches are due to visit Lympsham School on Wednesday 11th May and have confirmed dates at Burnham Infants, St Andrews, Mark, St Josephs, Berrow and Churchfield.

Parents are reminded that children are all given vouchers offering a free session at the club on either Friday night for Vinny’s Minis or on a Coaching Session on Saturday mornings to give them another opportunity to see if tennis is for them.
