Countdown begins to opening of new-look Burnham tourist centre

-

The countdown has begun to this Thursday’s opening of Burnham-On-Sea’s new tourist information centre.

The shelves at the centre have been stocked with new tourist information, merchandise and sea safety advice leaflets this week in readiness for Thursday’s official opening, which takes place at mid-day.

A wide range of tourist information, travel advice, leaflets, and details on local attractions will be available.

The stock includes artwork from Burnham artist Judith Champion, fudge from Burnham fudge maker Jonathan Walter, Bristol Blue glass, apple juice from Rich’s Cider Farm, and merchandise from Burnham-On-Sea.com which will all be sold to raise money for the newly-formed community group BIARS (Burnham Information And Rescue Support), which now runs the centre.

Supporters of Burnham hovercraft rescue charity BARB and The Coastguard Association will also be handing out sea safety information and selling charity merchandise at the centre.

Glastonbury Festival boss Michael Eavis will perform the official opening this Thursday (April 14th) at mid-day and then be given a guided tour of the adjacent hovercraft and coastguard stations.

It comes after Sedgemoor District Council this week formally handed over the lease to the building to BIARS.

BIARS has this week issued a fresh appeal for more volunteers to come forward to help run the seafront centre. To find out more, visit the BIARS web page here.
