Burnham resident urges council to introduce more public toilets

-

An angry Burnham-On-Sea resident this week urged councillors to introduce more public toilet facilities in the town.

Mike Young, pictured, stood up at Monday’s town council meeting and told them he is “disgusted” by the poor facilities in Burnham.

Mike, who is a volunteer at Burnham’s Tourist Information Centre, said: “It is a disgrace that there is only one set of public toilets on Burnham seafront which are often very busy at this time of year and closed in the evenings. I am disgusted that more facilities are not available in a seaside town like this.”

He called on the Town Council and Sedgemoor District Council to improve the facilities.

But Mayor Michael Clarke responded: “I do sympathise with the comments, but public toilets are unfortunately one of several services that have been affected by the recent cuts.”

Town clerk Eileen Shaw said the matter would be considered again by councillors at a future meeting.
