Burnham-On-Sea’s new 2011 tourist guide was formally launched on Thursday (March 10th) as local tourism businesses look forward to what promises to be a ‘bumper’ season.

The 24-page glossy brochure was officially unveiled on Burnham’s Esplanade by Bob Nicholson, Chairman of Somerset Tourism Association.

A total of 100,000 copies have been printed and these are being distributed at Tourist Information Centres, attractions and at tourism exhibitions and shows.

The brochure is also available from Burnham’s Tourist Information Centre on The Esplanade and is funded by advertisers, who include Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“All the indications are that this season is going to be another good one for the local tourist trade,” Bob told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“Bookings in Brean are already 20 per cent up on previous years and accommodation providers in Burnham are also busy.”

Bob added that he thinks the recession and rising fuel costs are actually likely to help the local tourist industry.

He explained: “People have less money to spend on holidays and high fuel costs mean they won’t want to travel far, which will help British seaside resorts like Brean and Burnham.”

The Tourism Association’s Tom Ashton added: “Burnham guesthouses are having their busiest Spring for many years. I think the Royal wedding is helping in April as people look to extend their Easter breaks into the following weekend when the extra bank holiday will be held.”

Members of Somerset Tourism Association attended the National Caravan and Boat Show in Birmingham last week where 6,500 copies of the brochure were handed out.
