£70,000 of improvements confirmed for Burnham-On-Sea town centre

-

Almost £70,000 of improvements are set to be made to Burnham-On-Sea town centre as part of a mini regeneration project, it has been confirmed this week.

New street lighting, seating, plants, street paving and bins are to be introduced in Burnham High Street and Victoria Street.

“The work will hopefully get underway early in 2012,” Cllr Neville Jones told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“We hope to do some small things that will make a great impression and smarten up the town centre. Some of the changes could be in place for next year’s Jubilee.”

The work is being funded as part of Burnham’s Civic Pride regeneration project and includes installing new street lighting suitable for hanging baskets, refurbishing existing seats, planting trees and shrubs in planters and replacing existing rubbish bins. A review of signage in the town centre is also underway.

Mayor Michael Clarke added: “It’s wonderful news that this work is going ahead. It should gift the town centre a real lift and is sure to be welcomed by residents and visitors alike.”
