Burnham-On-Sea groups to join nationwide tree planting project

-

Members of Burnham In Bloom, Burnham Dreamscheme and the Friends of Apex Park will be rolling up their sleeves later this month to take part in a nationwide tree planting project.

The groups will be joining the Royal Horticultural Society’s ‘It’s Your Neighbourhood’ campaign by planting scores of saplings at Apex Park on Saturday 26th March starting at 10.30am.

Burnham and Highbridge’s Mayor, Cllr Michael Clarke, has agreed to plant the first tree.

The Friends of Apex Park will also be taking part, along with youngsters from Burnham’s newly-formed Dreamscheme.

The Society’s Britain In Bloom organisers have teamed up with the Woodland Trust to give away up to 200,000 free tree saplings with the aim of doubling the number of native trees and woods across the UK.

Burnham In Bloom Secretary Richard Young told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The Burnham in Bloom Committee are pleased to be able to organise this event which will involve people of all ages, representing a number of different community groups coming together to plant trees and improve the local environment for the benefit of all our local residents and visitors.”
