A morning of brilliant sunshine provided ideal conditions for the 140 adults and 40 children who took part in Burnham-On-Sea’s annual spring triathlon on Sunday (April 10th).

The Supersprint Triathlon comprised of a swim (250m), bike ride (10k) and a run (2.5km) along the town’s beach and seafront.

The event was won by Will Massey from Cromhall Triathletes Club (pictured below) in a fast time of 31 minutes.

Brother Alex Massey completed the race just fifty seconds behind him to clinch second spot. And James Paul from Somerset RC Triathletes was in third place 15 seconds behind. The first lady home was Alice Hector in a time of 32 minutes and 50 seconds.

In the shorter children’s races, the Girls Tri Start 1-G category was won by Lauren Ashurst from Burnham Swim and Sports Academy. The Girls Tri Start 2-G category was won by Kirsty Jenkins from Burnham Swimming Club and the 3-G was won by Lucy Davies from Weston-super-Mare Swimming Club.

In the boys’ entries, the Boys Tri Start 1-B category was won by Toby Tishaw. First place in the Tri Start 2-B category was won by Michael Watson from Exeter Tri Club while 3-B category was won by Scott Jenkins of Burnham Swimming Club.

Organiser Martin Rogers said the event had gone well and praised the standard of entries. “It’s been a fantastic triathlon today and everyone did exceptionally well. We had some excellent weather.”

The biggest cheers of the day from the crowd of spectators on the seafront finishing line went to 90 year-old Arthur Gilbert, who completed his 20th Burnham Triathlon – more here.
