Highbridge volleyball players selected for south west squad

-

A group of young volleyball players from Highbridge has represented the south west during a series of regional matches.

Following a full season of training, five players from King Alfred’s School Volleyball Club were selected for the South West Under 14 Regional squad.

The squad was made up of girls selected from Devon, Dorset, Gloucester, Bristol, Wiltshire and Somerset.

The Highbridge school’s girls who were selected were Rachael Butler, Emily Bailey, Lucy Cox, Ruby Barrett and Luisa Vunipola (pictured).

They travelled to Kettering earlier this month where they played against teams from across the country. One of the teams narrowly lost to London for a place in the semi-finals who went on to win the inter–regional championship.

“Particular mention should be made of Emily (Year 8), who has yet another year to qualify for this age group and Luisa (Year 7), who has a further two years in this age group. The three year 9s will move up to the Under 16 squad next season,” a school spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
