A busy route through Highbridge is to close for a week during February.

Somerset County Council has announced that ‘essential repairs’ are to be carried out on the Walrow railway bridge from Monday February 7th, forcing its closure.

During recent months, motorists have reported that the road surface is slumping either side of the bridge, even though it was only introduced less than three years ago.

Somerset County Council spokeswoman Jan Hookings told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Resurfacing work will be carrired out from February 7th for seven days, excluding weekends. Diversions will be in place through the Isleport Business Park during the period of closure.”

The bridge was shut for several months during 2007 and 2008, as reported here, while strengethening works were carred out.
