Burnham-On-Sea fire crews tackle ‘suspicious’ Wedmore barn blaze

-

Burnham-On-Sea firefighters were among fire crews from across the area who tackled a big barn blaze near Wedmore on Sunday (July 17th).

Fire engines from Cheddar, Winscombe, Blagdon, Bridgwater, Street and Burnham were called to the blaze at Crickham.

The incident was originally reported at 11.54am on Saturday night but the fire was not fully extinguished until 6.30am on Sunday.

The barn – measuring 10 x 20 metres – had 50-60 tonnes of hay inside which was well alight when crews arrived.

Hose reel jets were used throughout the night to extinguish the flames and damp down the building.

A fire spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Crews left the scene at 6.30am. The cause of the fire is thought to be suspicious which resulted in the barn and contents being severely damaged.”
