Police
appeal for witnesses after two motorists killed in collision

Burnham-On-Sea
police and ambulance crews were called to a fatal crash near Cheddar
earlier on Sunday (October 7th) in which two people were killed.
Witnesses
are being sought following the fatal collision near to Cheddar
on the A371 Axbridge by-pass at about 3am. Our photos show the
scenes soon after daylight broke on Sunday.
Police
said a BMW and a Peugeot were involved in the collision and the
drivers of both vehicles died. A third man who was travelling
in the BMW was taken to the BRI hospital at Bristol with life-threatening
injuries and was later transferred to Frenchay Hospital, where
he remains in a critical condition.
The
A371 was closed for much of the morning, as pictured here, to
allow a detailed examination of the scene.
Police
investigating the incident have appealed for witnesses and a spokesman
told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "We would particularly like to hear
from anyone who was on the A371 shortly before or at the time
of the collision, who may have information to help their enquiries."
"They
would also like to hear from anyone who may have seen a red BMW
on the A38 between Brent Island and Cross before the collision
happened."
Anyone
able to help is asked to contact the police collision investigation
unit on the force number 101.
