Campaigners from Burnham area join dozens at badger cull protest

-

Wildlife campaigners from the Burnham-On-Sea area joined a protest in Frome last night (Thursday, December 27th) to air their concerns about the proposed cull of badgers across the west country.

Anti-badger cull campaigners from East Huntspill’s Secret World Wildlife Centre – who say the proposed cull would be unnecessary and unscientific – joined in the protest walk.

Almost 30 supporters from across the region gathered to widen public awareness of the Government’s proposed mass killing of badgers to reduce Bovine TB in cattle.

Spokesman for the Badger Night Walkers, Adrian Coward, said: “We were heartened by the warm response received. There was almost unanimous support against the proposed killing. All of those engaged in discussion thought that killing badgers would not solve the Bovine TB problem.”

500 leaflets were distributed encouraging the public to write to or contact their local MP to question the Government policy and make clear the group’s feelings against killing badgers.

In October, the Government announced it was postponing the start of its controversial badger cull until next summer.
