Man at centre of Burnham explosives raid is named and charged

Police named and charged a 36-year-old Burnham-On-Sea man with offences under the Explosives Act on Saturday night (January 21st).

Phillip Leonard has been charged with four offences of making explosives following the search by army and police in Beatty Way on Friday.

Mr Leonard is due to appear at Taunton Deane Magistrates Court on Monday (January 23rd).

He was arrested by police officers after the execution of a warrant under the Explosives Act.

"Some items have been removed for evidential purposes and some for safe disposal," police spokesman Martin Dunscombe told after the raid.

Dozens of people were evacuated around the man's home throughout Friday and taken to a temporary rest centre at Burnham Community Centre.
