Aspiring Highbridge Chef Brad Edrich has been honoured at Weston College’s Excellence in Business Training Awards 2012, celebrating businesses and apprentices.

Brad Edrich, 17, of Bristol Road, Highbridge received the Hospitality Learner of the Year Award and overall Principal Awards Learner of the Year.

The apprentice at Clavelshay Barn Restaurant in North Petherton near Bridgwater has become so proficient he is virtually running starter and dessert sections.

His employer, Sue Milverton, said: “Brad came in October last year and he is enthusiastic, hard working and always on time. He’s a brilliant apprentice who deserved to win.”

Brad added: “I’ve wanted to be a Chef since I started cooking with my Nana when I was six years old. One day I want my own restaurant.”

Weston College Principal and Chief Executive, Dr Paul Phillips OBE added: “Brad convinced his prospective employer to give him a trial and after his first day was offered the job of Apprentice Chef.”

“He has come on in leaps and bounds and was nominated for these awards because of his desire to learn and be the best.”
