Highbridge cannabis factory uncovered by Burnham-On-Sea Police

-

Police uncovered a cannabis factory in Highbridge on Tuesday (November 20th) during a force-wide ‘day of action’ against criminality across the region.

Officers swooped on a home in Burnham Road this morning where they found the cannabis growing operation.

“Plants were seized and two people – a man aged 34 and woman aged 24 – were arrested on suspicion of the cultivation of the drugs,” a spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

Over 306 people were arrested across the Avon and Somerset force region during the day.

This was one of the largest ‘Operation Relentless’ initiatives since its launch in 2005. During that time there have been more than 3,000 arrests.

ACC Anthony Bangham, Gold Commander for the operation, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Relentless has been running for seven years and has two main aims – reinforcing what we do on daily basis in targeting criminals head-on and providing further public reassurance through visible high impact policing.”

“Today we have arrested more than 300 criminals, which sends out a strong message that crime does not pay in Avon and Somerset. Some of the people we have arrested today have been a blight on their local communities.”

“And some of those offenders have been arrested as a result of intelligence and information provided by members of the public, acting as our ‘eyes and ears.'”

He added that the operation was intended to provide reassurance to communities and make them feel safe where they live and work.
