Chinese
New Year celebrated by pupils at Berrow Primary School
Pupils
at Berrow Pre-School and the reception class at Berrow have been
celebrating Chinese New Year this week.
Youngsters from the foundation stage learnedall about the colourful
traditions and enjoyed a Chinese banquet.
The children all tried eating a selection of rice, noodles, sauce
and spring rolls using chop sticks.
All of the children had a chance to look at Chinese letters and
characters and tried to paint them, as well as learning the action
song Gung Hay Fat Choy. They also made Chinese-style items such
as lucky flowers, paper chains and hats.
Head teacher Heather Hector told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "At
Berrow Pre-School and Primary School there is a great tradition
of embracing world cultures and traditions, as well as local cultures
and customs."
"We feel that it gives the children a greater understanding
of the world at large and by learning in focus weeks such as this
it really helps to give the children a more full understanding
and tolerance."
