Costa
Coffee unveils plans to open up in Burnham-On-Sea
A
prominent shop in the heart of Burnham-On-Sea looks set to become
a new Costa Coffee cafe later this year.
The coffee giant has submitted proposals to take over the premises
previously occupied by the Sanders greengrocers shop in the High
Street.
Burnham-On-Sea.com first reported last October that the long-running
greengrocer
had closed. Owner Phil Payne blamed competition from supermarkets
for its demise.
Sedgemoor
District Council confirmed to Burnham-On-Sea.com on Tuesday that
Costa's application is for a cafe with opening hours of 6.30am
- 8pm.
The application will be considered by councillors over the coming
weeks.
Costa hopes to open the new cafe this autumn if it wins approval.
Several food retailers in Burnham have already expressed concerns
that the store will have on their trade.
