Counterfeit bank notes warning issued in Burnham-On-Sea

-

Businesses and residents in Burnham-On-Sea have this week been warned to watch out for counterfeit bank notes circulating in the town.

The managers of a Chinese restaurant in the town centre were shocked to find they had accepted a counterfeit £20 note in payment for a meal on Friday evening (January 27th).

“It was a very good copy of a £20 note,” a spokeswoman for the restaurant told Burnham-On-Sea.com. “The silver security foil runs through the middle as you’d expect and it’s only when you look very closely that you notice the printing quality and colouring is poorer than normal.”

Police say anyone with information about the counterfeit notes should contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or dial their non-emergency number of 101.
