Countdown begins to Burnham-On-Sea’s Christmas lights switch-on

-

Somerset equestrian rider Deb Criddle, who won three medals at the 2012 London Games, will be helping to switch-on Burnham’s Christmas lights this Saturday (November 24th).

An afternoon of free family entertainment will be held outside the Somerset and Dorset pub in Burnham High Street from 3pm featuring Burnham’s Mudlarks Community Choir, St Andrew’s School and festive hand bell ringers.

The choir will be performing Christmas music from 3pm and Father Christmas is due to arrive from the North Pole at around 3.20pm with free surprises for children.

Burnham’s Mudlarks Community Choir will perform a great line-up of Christmas songs at 3.40pm, followed by local hand bell ringers at 4.20pm. The Carnival Queen will arrive at 4.30pm, followed by the Mayor and VIP guests, including Burnham’s Olympic torch bearers, at 4.35pm, with the switch-on itself taking place at 4.45pm.

Many traders in Burnham will be staying open until 6.30pm after the Christmas lights switch-on for visitors to get their Christmas shopping underway.

Equestrian rider Deb Criddle, right, won a team gold medal and two individual silver medals at the 2012 London Paralympic Games. She lives near Taunton.

Saturday’s event will be led by local radio presenter Ian Burrage and is being organised by Burnham Chamber of Trade, Burnham Town Team and Burnham Lions. Any late changes will be announced on Burnham-On-Sea.com.
