Doctor’s farewell after 30 years at Highbridge Medical Centre

-

A well-known doctor is set to leave Highbridge Medical Centre after three decades in a senior role at the practice.

Dr Ciaran Clapham, who was one of the original group of GPs who merged three separate surgeries to form the Highbridge practice, is leaving at the end of this month.

Dr Clapham told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Lots of patients aren’t aware I’m leaving. I’m sorry I won’t be able to say goodbye to many of them in person. Highbridge is an area with more than its fair share of problems, but I shall always remember the fortitude and good humour of those in my care.”

“I’m not retiring from general practice. If anything, I am more passionate about improving standards of healthcare now than when I started in medicine over three decades ago. I intend to continue working as a GP in practices closer to my new home in Taunton.”

She added: “I’m leaving not only a hugely-modernised health centre building – a vast improvement on Alpha House back in the 80s – but also very hard-working staff and partners.”

“I’ve particularly valued being a part of a conscientious and caring healthcare team, past and present. Without them, a modern GP can do very little.”

“I’d like to thank the community of Highbridge and Burnham for their warmth and friendship, which have helped to make these thirty years in practice so fulfilling.”

Dr Clapham’s last day at Highbridge Medical Centre will be Tuesday 31st July.
