Plans
to relax dog walking restrictions on Burnham beach attacked
Proposals
to relax dog walking restrictions on Burnham-On-Sea beach have
this week been given a 'thumbs down' during a council debate.
Town
councillor Louise Parkin said she "vehemently objects"
to any plans to increase the area where dogs can walk on the beach.
"It
took three years of negotiations to introduce a ban on dogs on
Burnham's beach and I would very strongly object to any changes,"
she said, citing health concerns.
Her
comments came during a discussion at Monday's town council meeting
where proposals to promote Burnham as a dog-friendly tourist destination
were considered.
Dogs
are currently not permitted on the beaches in Burnham-On-Sea during
the summer months, however outside the summer period, different
restrictions in place. Dogs are permitted on the beaches north
of the sea wall throughout the whole year. A map is available
here
to show the restrictions.
