New arrests in police crackdown on drugs in Burnham and Highbridge

-

Police have made three arrests in a crackdown on drug crime in Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge over the past week as residents have urged officers to keep drug crime as their top priority.

In the latest police operation, a man was arrested for cultivation of cannabis at his home in Somerset Way, Highbridge.

A second man was also held following a separate drugs raid at a home on the town’s Morland estate.

And in Burnham, police swooped on a flat on The Esplanade, seizing a cannabis growing setup of five plants.

A man has also been charged with possession of cannabis at a house in Raleigh Gardens, Burnham.

The arrests come after residents urged police to keep up the pressure on drug crime at a quarterly ‘Have Your Say’ police community meeting held in Highbridge last week. Residents decided that drug crime should be the main priority for police in the town over the coming three months.

Sgt Ian Kennett from Burnham Police told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Residents have given us a very clear message that they won’t tolerate drugs and they want us to continue targeting drug crime. This will be our priority in the next quarter.”
