Police have confirmed today (Friday) that the body of a child found washed up on a beach in Burnham-On-Sea has been formally identified as missing Dylan Cecil.

The four-year-old, from Kettering, fell from Burnham jetty last Sunday, prompting a huge search operation.

Police said a coroner’s investigation will now take place.

On Sunday, a minute’s silence will be held at 10am on Burnham beach at the start of Burnham’s annual rescue services day. A public memorial service will also be held St Andrew’s Church at 6pm.

Avon and Somerset Police said the body was discovered on the beach near the town’s yacht club at 12.30pm on Thursday.

Dylan had wanted to get a closer look at the sea when he slipped off the side of the jetty last Sunday and then went missing beneath the water.

His parents tried to rescue him, but were unable to reach him and had to be pulled from the water.
