Burnham-On-Sea
shoppers and firms warned over fake £20 notes
Burnham-On-Sea
businesses and shoppers have this week been urged to be on their
guard against counterfeit bank notes.
Several
forged £20 notes have been received by businesses in the
town centre - including a High Street shop, a pub and a petrol
station.
Phil Hemming from Home Hardware in Burnham High Street is one
of the shops affacted.
He
told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "If you rub your thumb across the
top of the note the 'Twenty Pound' is not raised and the watermark
resembles a spaniel more than the Queen."
"The
person who tried it in the shop was purchasing a 20p nut and bolt
with a £20 note to get the change. One of the team spotted
it and the customer said 'Try this one' and attempted to give
us another forgery. Apparently several business have been targeted."
