-

Somerset County Council has thanked a group of Burnham-On-Sea rescuers for stepping in to help a stranded community of 120 people.

All roads in and out of the village of in Muchelney have been closed due to flooding for several days.

The council contacted BARB (Burnham Area Rescue Boat) on Wednesday, which sent its inshore rescue boat to the area to help get vital supplies and support to residents, as reported here.

Wessex 4×4 Response has also been helping by taking villagers into nearby Langport after disembarking.

“We are very grateful to the help given by voluntary groups stepping in,” said Council Leader John Osman this week.

“Our own staff have linked up with partners and emergency groups to help a large number of people who were stuck, with no way in or out of the village.”
