Flooding could leave Berrow Parish Council with play area repair bill

-

Parish councillors in Berrow are concerned that several weeks of flooding may have damaged the village’s £70,000 play area.

Heavy rainfall has caused the partial closure of the playing area besides Berrow village green, as pictured here on Thursday (December 27th).

The play area, which opened two years ago after receiving lottery funding, has been out of action due to the extreme weather.

Parish Council Chairman Barry Kew told Burnham-On-Sea.com this week: “The play area has been well and truly affected and the flooding is currently worse than ever.”

“We are monitoring its condition closely and will be checking out all the equipment carefully once the water has receded to see if there has been any damage. The sand-filled areas will certainly need repairs and possibly the plastic flooring.”

Further warnings of more heavy rain and strong winds have been forecast by the Met Office for the next few days.
