Streets in part of Burnham-On-Sea were left under several inches of water on Thursday evening (June 21st) after heavy rainfall.

Roads and pavements along parts of Maple Drive and Sycamore Close were flooded with up to six inches of water, as pictured, due to long-running drainage problems.

Residents are unhappy about the problem which they believe is being caused by poor drainage facilities at nearby Burnham Holiday Village.

Resident Clive Hansard told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The flooding is becoming quite a problem here after heavy rainfall. Water covers the roads, driveways and pavements for hours at a time. One elderly resident even finds it difficult to get out of her home due to the water surrounding the front of her home.”

He added: “We have complained to Somerset County Council but the problem appears to lie with the Holiday Village. The drains here are overwhelmed by the rainwater from the park and the streets and are unable to take it away.”

The residents are seeking more help from the county council to tackle the matter.
