Burnham-On-Sea
food network plans receive £1,500 council boost
Proposals
to introduce a new local business-to-business food network and
expand Burnham-On-Sea's Food and Drink Festival have this week
been supported by the Town Council with a grant of £1,500.
Bev
and Sarah Milner Simonds, right, outlined their plans to launch
the new business network to promote local food producers through
events, talks and tours plus plans to expand the festival, which
was held for the first time last
month.
At
Monday's meeting of the Town Council's Policy and Finance Committee,
councillors backed the plans, saying that they will help to boost
trade and attract extra visitors into the town.
Cllr
Phil Harvey told Monday's meeting: "The plans would improve
the economic life of the town through a programme of events culminating
in the food festival."
Cllr
Peter Burridge-Clayton added: "I am fully in support of the
plans, which will help businesses in the town. I can see the festival
growing year by year."
Last month's food festival attracted over 2,000 visitors and was
hailed a success. It was praised by Burnham's Chamber of Trade
plus traders and other groups.
