Large
fuel spill brings Highbridge rush-hour traffic to a halt on A38

The
busy A38 through Highbridge was partially closed for almost two
hours on Monday evening (July 23rd) following a mystery fuel spill.
Burnham
fire crews were called to the busy Huntspill Road where more than
30 litres of fuel was found across the carriageway, making the
surface hazardous for road users.
Long
queues of traffic built up around the scene, which was cordoned
off during the busy evening rush hour.
Police
diverted motorists around the scene from just before 5pm, as pictured.
A
fire spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "Fire crews reported
over 30 litres of diesel on the road. They used environmental
packs to soak up the spillage."
The
County Council's highways team also attended with sand while police
from Burnham-On-Sea diverted traffic around the scene. A spokesman
said it was unclear whhow ere such a large quantity of fuel had
been spilt.
