Burnham motorist's anger as vandals cause £800 of damage to his car

An angry Burnham-On-Sea resident faces a repair bill of almost £800 after vandals damaged his car while it was parked on the town's seafront this week.

Graham Wills, treasurer of Burnham Sailing Club, found his Saab had been targeted with a key or screwdriver on The South Esplanade on Wednesday evening as he attended the club's AGM.

"When I came out at around 10.30pm, I found four deep key or screwdriver gouges in the metallic black paintwork on both sides of the car," he told

"The repair costs will be just under £800 which the insurers have advised will result in a £200 loading on my insurance premium and will also involve a £450 policy excess, leaving me to foot the entire bill."

He added: "This was so unwarranted and mindless. The car is just one year old and I have only owned it for three weeks which makes even more frustrating."

"If any members of the public saw anything suspicious on Wednesday night, I would urge them to inform the police, who are investigating."

Burnham Police can be reached via the non-emergency number 101. The incident comes just days after we reported here that a car had been attacked in the town centre.
