Police
were called to investigate a group of gunmen seen besides
the River Brue in Burnham-On-Sea on Monday evening (October 1st).
The five
were spotted on marshland opposite Burnham Sailing Club
by wildlife
carers
from Secret World during
a search
for an injured bird.
Police
were
called and two officers walked
along the river bank from Highbridge to check on the group, who
turned out to be fully licensed and legal waterfowl hunters from
Highbridge.
Police
spokesman Wayne Baker confirmed to Burnham-On-Sea.com: "We
received reports of men carrying guns near the Yacht Club at 5.45pm
last night. They were checked out and found to be wildfowl shooters
with licences in order."
Secret
World's Animal Care Manager Sara Cowen added: "We're concerned
and very disappointed that wildfowl hunting is taking place here
and would advise walkers to take extra care when in the area."
