Plans
for new high-tech history trail in Burnham-On-Sea unveiled
A
new high-tech history trail could soon be introduced in Burnham-On-Sea
to encourage visitors and residents to explore the town's heritage.
The
proposals have been drawn up by town councillor Phil Harvey (right)
and include the ability for smartphone owners to access background
information about historical buildings, such as St Andrew's Church,
as they walk along the route.
Phil
told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "It was recently pointed out that
Highbridge has a history trail but Burnham does not, so I have
discussed the idea for a new trail with local historian Bob Thomas
and we have put together a feasible proposal."
A
map would be produced showing the locations of historical buildings
and sites across Burnham, each of which would be marked by a plaque,
similar to the ones in Highbridge pictured here.
Each
location would also include a QR code (Quick Response Code) for
smartphone users to scan and access further online information
about buildings or nearby visitor facilities, such as public toilets
or forthcoming attractions at the town's Princess Theatre.
The
scheme is due to be considered further by the Town Council over
the coming weeks.
