Bank
Holiday hospital fete in Burnham scaled down due to wet weather

Wet
weather has led to Burnham-On-Sea's annual August Bank Holiday
hospital fete being cancelled today (Monday) and replaced with
a smaller, indoor event.
Organisers
from the Friends of Burnham Hospital, pictured at last year's
event, made the decision early today amid heavy rain.
Instead,
they are to hold a 'mini-fete' in Burnham's St Andrew's Church
Hall starting at 2pm.
"Although
the number of stalls will be limited, the popular bottle stall
will be there and there will be an opportunity to buy cakes and
various items that have been donated to raise money for the hospital,"
Tony Deahl, Chairman of the Friends, told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
"This
is the first time in over 20 years that the fete has had to be
cancelled because of the weather and the Hospital Fete joins the
many other events that have had to be called off because of the
unusually poor summer."
He
added: "This is very unfortunate as the hospital benefits
by about £4,000 each year from fete proceeds and many other
local charities raise money for their own good causes at our fete."
