Burnham-On-Sea information centre appoints new Tourism Manager

-

Burnham-On-Sea’s tourist information centre has this week appointed Ian Jefferies as its new Business and Tourism Manager.

Ian, 45, is among the 40 volunteers who have run the seafront centre during the past 18 months since it was taken over by community group BIARS (Burnham Information And Rescue Support) in April 2011.

“Ian is one of an enthusiastic team who has helped to turn the centre round, which is now showing a profit. His personal attitude towards the importance of tourism to Burnham and the coastal strip has made him the right man for this very important post as so many jobs in this area depend on tourism,” said Cllr Neville Jones, Chairman of BIARS, this week.

Ian helped to organise Burnham’s Jubilee parade earlier this year and was part of the team who organised the town’s world record attempt for sandcastle building, which attracted hundreds of participants.

“I don’t see why we have to wait to hold these events on occasions such as the Jubilee,” he said after his appointment.

“I’d like to see events like this held throughout the year, possibly on a Burnham Day or Burnham Weekend?”

Cllr Jones added: “Ian’s role will not be just confined to the office on The Esplanade. He will be getting out and about and helping the town generally to gain more from tourism.”
